Kandy, Sri Lanka, is home to several religious buildings, one of which is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa. It may be found within the complex of the royal palace that once belonged to the Kandyan kingdom, which is now home to the relic of the Buddha's tooth. It has been thought since ancient times that whoever owns the relic also holds the rule of the island; as a result, the relic has played an essential part in the politics of the region ever since those days. The relic was previously owned by Sinhalese kings at various points in time. Because of both the temple and the relic, the "Temple of the Tooth" has been recognised as a World Heritage Site.
